Per the Government of Alberta Youth participating in sports aged 12 - 17 are NOT required to show proof of vaccination, a negative test, or a medical exemption.
You MUST have proof of vaccination, proof of a negative privately paid rapid test taken (within 72 hours), or a medical exemption to gain entry to the premises to participate in any recreation or sports activity, or be in any public area IF:
IMPORTANT: this will mean a youth that is exempt as a participant in physical activity will be subject to proof of vaccination as a non-participant. Example - a youth leaving a minor hockey program practice, then going to spectate in the stands.
Proof of vaccination is provided with the following criteria:
You can download your Alberta vaccination record which does not include personal identifiers (such as your Alberta Health Care number): https://www.albertavaccinerecord.ca
We are all required to comply with these restrictions at the facilities where we have ice contracts or face losing our ice permits with them for the season.
Because Ringette will take place at any number of facilities and there isn't consistency across facilities Ringette Alberta has recommended and we verify documentation with our membership. The Indus arena (for example) has asked us to screen all individuals coming into the facility for Ringette related activities; this is logistically challenging for us to maintain with integrity. Facilities in Calgary are requiring proof of vaccination for athletes 12+, CRCA requires proof as outlined above.
To help our season run smoothly, IRA is looking to verify and streamline the collection of this information from families in advance. If you are 18+ and in some capacity a parent, coach, official, and/or athlete with Indus we ask that you share your proof of vaccination. Proof of vaccination or medical exemption can be submit via confidential email to iraringettesafetyofficer@gmail.com, the results of a negative COVID test can only be emailed within 72hrs of a ringette activity. If you are not comfortable sharing this information electronically, the IRA will have check-in booths set up to facilitate in person verification over the next two days:
IRA endeavors to collect this information one time for the season, however individuals must be prepared to show their proof at every event in the event they are asked; AHS may do periodic spot checks/audits to monitor compliance, in addition to Facility monitoring.
We thank everyone for their support and cooperation and will continue to forward any additional information as provided to us.
